Women’s Group Composes Song to Celebrate ISODEC’s Empowerment Initiative

A women’s group in Garu in the Upper East Region has composed a song in appreciation of the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) for its efforts to empower women and strengthen their participation in rural banking governance.

The women expressed their appreciation to ISODEC through a song they composed and sang in the Kusaal language. The song celebrated the knowledge and education they had received from ISODEC and conveyed their gratitude for the organisation’s efforts to empower them and strengthen their participation in rural banking governance.

Through the song, the women highlighted how the education and knowledge gained had broadened their understanding of rural banking, shareholding, governance and their rights and responsibilities as prospective shareholders.

The gesture follows ISODEC’s move to support women’s groups working with BESSFA Rural Bank to effectively participate in the governance and decision-making processes of the financial institution.

The initiative is aimed at empowering the women to understand their rights and responsibilities as shareholders and to ensure that their collective interests are adequately represented in the governance of the bank.

The women’s groups are prospective shareholders of BESSFA Rural Bank and have expressed interest in playing a more active role in the affairs and decision-making processes of the institution.

As part of the initiative, ISODEC is planning to cede part of its shares to Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) groups under BESSFA. The shares are expected to provide the women with an opportunity to have a stronger voice in the affairs of the bank and contribute meaningfully to its governance.
