The Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) has challenged the Bank of Ghana’s reliance on the Monetary Policy Rate as the primary tool for managing the economy, calling for a shift towards managing the quantity, quality and allocation of credit.
ISODEC said its analysis found no significant causal relationship between the policy rate and GDP growth, arguing that monetary policy should instead prioritise credit access to productive sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and agro-processing.
