EQUINet Opens Applications for Founding Cohort of West African Journalists

The Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) has launched a call for applications for the founding cohort of the Equity and Natural Resource Media Network (EQUINet), a new regional initiative aimed at strengthening journalism on inequality and natural resource governance across West Africa.

The network is seeking 20-25 journalists from Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria to join its inaugural 12-month membership programme and contribute to reporting that promotes accountability, transparency, and equity in the management of natural resources.

According to ISODEC, despite West Africa’s vast reserves of gold, oil, gas, and other minerals, many communities continue to face economic, social, and gender inequalities. EQUINet has been established to equip journalists with the knowledge, tools, mentorship, and collaborative platforms needed to investigate and report on these issues more effectively.

Selected members will participate in training workshops, media briefings, peer-learning sessions, and cross-border reporting collaborations. They will also have opportunities to access story and travel grants, receive editorial support, and contribute to EQUINet’s annual publication, the State of Extractives in West Africa.

The programme is open to practising journalists working in print, broadcast, online, and multimedia platforms who have at least two years of professional experience and a demonstrated interest in governance, extractives, public finance, or inequality reporting. Women journalists and those reporting from mining and resource-affected communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications must be submitted by 15 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. GMT and should include a CV, two to three published or broadcast work samples, and details of two professional references.

EQUINet forms part of ISODEC’s broader efforts to strengthen public discourse and policy engagement around natural resource governance and social justice in the region.
